Description :InfoCrystal is an augmented-reality enabled kiosk system for interactive multimedia information presentation. Interactive kiosks are computer-based self-service systems installed in public area. They are often used for providing locative information and exhibit presentation. Traditional kiosk provides a multi-touch display at a hand-reach level. Since the display is opaque, to avoid occluding the presentation subject, the information have to be displayed with an offset, i.e. the user has to look away from the subject they are interested in, in order to obtain information on the subject. To provide info on the subject detail, a virtual proxy (3D model of the subject) is required, but it is often hard for a user to find out the corresponding parts between the actual subject and the proxy. It is not intuitive and will unnecessarily draw the user’s attention from the presentation subject to the assistive system. We have a vision to solve the mentioned problem by integrating transparent display and various modern input technologies, including multi-touch and 3D head-tracking, into a kiosk. With information properly overlayed onto the presentation subject, user can interact and query information by touching the display right above the subject. It would be a natural and usable solution. We aim to develop and deploy for museums and sightseeing spots. We are confident that our system will give a modern and hi-tech image to the visitors of our customers. It will be beneficial to both to our customers and the end-users.
